Artist Statement and Inspiration

“I must reach inside myself to find what I already know”

Energy, balance and the dichotomy of opposing forces are the inspirations behind my work. I do not see energy and balance as two separate ideas. Balance is the desirable point between opposite forces which I depict as energy. Energy cannot be created or destroyed, only modified in form. I depict the various spiritual forces that evolve in the polarity of life. The practice of placement and arrangement of color and lines are essential to demonstrating harmony in the environment. Results are accomplished when I recognize and study patterns in my self, other people’s behavior, influential artists, and my environment. One can view these ideas in nature when watching the sun fall and the moon rise.

Jill Ashley presents several series in progress developed in her studios in Santa Barbara, California and New York, New York.

Critics have made comparisons to artists such as Georgia O’Keefe, Henri Matisse, Mark Rothko and Wasilly Kandinsky.
